Deziree Nicole Perez is currently a full-time student at the University of Houston. She is working towards earning her B.S. degree in HR Development. When not volunteering with various non-profit's in the administration department, she can be found with her nose in young adult novels or spending quality time with her family.

Deziree agrees that advocating for underrepresented groups is more than just "the right thing"; it's the best decision that organizations can dwell in. With this in mind, she believes that every person, going into the professional field, needs to gain knowledge and understanding of HOW important it is to advocate for a diverse community and WHY we need it everywhere that we go.  According to diversity and inclusion consultant, Jennifer Brown, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) is a three-in-one tool that plays an enormous role in organizations and its' employees (Brown, 2021, https://www.jbconlinelearning.com/courses/level-1-dei-foundations).

But if and only if it is utilized properly. Advocating the use of DEI in ideas and morals of an organization enables those concerned to accept the broad range of society, regardless of what we look like in life, where we come from or who we love.

Each of us has a role to play in DEI.

For those of us, it involves summoning the confidence to get up and talk out loud, to share thought or experiences. For some, it means to give an ear towards others with compassion and empathy, building a cohesive atmosphere. For all, it means being open to new perspectives and for advocating for those in underrepresented groups, like veterans...

Why advocate for veterans?

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_f8d_edited.jpg

For Deziree,

Since veterans have made the commitment to serve their country, advocating for them in the workplace would be an honor.

For College Students,

It is with the help of veterans, that college students are able to freely go to school and pursue an education of their choice.

For organizations,

Working with a veteran not only challenges their way of thinking, it also challenges the mind of civilian employees.
